“The Maharashtra government has warned that a penal action, including suspension of registration, will be taken against private hospitals refusing to treat patients under the excuse of “Covid 19”.”
“Minister of state for health Rajendra Patil Yadravkar said that the government hospitals, hospitals run by local self-governments, are taking the utmost care of the patients. Some of the private hospitals are also extending help. But, there are some private hospitals that refuse to admit, suspected “Covid 19” patients. This is unethical. When the whole world is fighting against coronavirus, it is the duty of the medical fraternity to unite and fight against this dreaded disease. The hospitals will have to examine all the patients coming to OPD. Otherwise, action will be taken against them.”
“It may be recalled that recently an ailing doctor from Jalgaon was turned away by 4 private hospitals due to coronavirus scare and was eventually admitted to the Government Medical College (GMC) as per the order of the District Collector on 19 March 2020. He has been on a ventilator due to the deterioration of his health. While the neglect of some of the private hospitals is coming to the fore, there are some general practitioners (GPs), who have closed down their dispensaries much in advance in view of coronavirus scare. Surprisingly some of them have also displayed boards that they are closing down their dispensaries temporarily due to the “Covid 19”.”
“Dr. Jayesh Lele, Honorary Secretary of the IMA said that the GPs have their own difficulties and they have their own freedom when to keep their dispensaries open, although people expect that their services should be available round the clock. In another development, Health Minister Rajesh Tope appealed private doctors not to close down their clinics due to Covid 19 scare. Through Facebook live, Tope said that the coronavirus is curable so no one needs to get frightened. “Tracing, testing, and treatment” is the formula adopted to eradicate “Covid 19”.”
“He said that many private doctors have temporarily closed down their clinics. This action by those in the medical profession is unethical, during such an emergent situation. The regular patients including children, aged may require medicare. If the dispensaries are closed down where they would go? he asked. The government will give all protection to doctors and police have been instructed to give required protection to the doctors. Besides, health workers will be given insurance cover and the government is also considering to give them an incentive bonus.”
