Ram-Shyam ! where are you?

Shyam- What’s the matter Papa?

Ram-How is your study going on?

Shyam- In full swing.

Ram- But I always see you glued to your cell phone.

Shyam- I read notes on my phone Papa.

Ram- So, the phone has replaced the books?

Shyam- No, but we get a lot of information on phone.

Ram-What happened to the books you wanted to buy?

Shyam- I have obtained Xerox copies of the books.

Ram-The things have reached to this extent?

Shyam- Yes, now a days, Xeroxed material is used more. But why

you are so upset?

Ram- I know how much the writer, printer and distributor has to slog by the time a book reaches the market.

Shyam-But that’s not your problem.

Ram- Yes, but this is a bad trend. If Xeroxed copies are sold, the original copies will be sold less, there will be less revenue and eventually the author will get less money.

Shyam- You could be right.

Ram-Incidentally, have you discontinued reading newspapers?

Shyam-I read them on my phone.

Ram-That is bad sign.

Shyam- Why?

Ram- If the newspapers are read online and on phone, there will be less demand for the print copies, the printers and vendors will get less work and eventually less money.

Shyam- But the world is moving very fast digitally.

Ram- Yes, tickets are booked, bills are paid, banking transactions take place, the goods are sold, voter registration is made. Everything online.

Shyam- What’s wrong in that?

Ram- Nothing wrong as long as one does not get a soap cake instead of a cell phone and such other things.

Shyam- But black sheeps are everywhere. Why to blame e-commerce ?

Ram- One has to be wary of the growing cyber crimes.

Shyam-You are half right.

Ram-What do you mean?

Shyam- There may be loopholes, but we save a lot of time and have to handle less paper work.

Ram- That reminds me, how your exam will be conducted this year?

Shyam- Off course, it will be off line and we will have to write a lot. But why are you asking this?

Ram-Because now a days many professional exams are also held online.

Shyam- Its okay.

Ram- Its okay as long as it doesn’t lead to mess. Two years back the declaration of results of an university was delayed inordinately due to an online assessment of answer sheets.

Shyam- I think. If everyone shoulders his/her responsibility properly all such things can be avoided.

Ram- Good, you are talking like a grandpa.

Shyam- I am one among 50 per cent people below the age of 25 years in this country.

Ram- So you justify “online revolution”

Shyam- Off course.

Ram- Oh, power is off, fans have stopped functioning. We will have to spend some time perspiring. Can you do something online?

Shyam- I can lodge a complaint, but by the time a fault is detected and rectified, it will take more time.

Ram-Why?

Shyam- Are you not aware that the electricians have to physically check the lines and rectify the defects?

Ram-I know, but it means that this job cannot be handled online.

Shyam- Obviously Papa. “Batti Gul” (lights off).. we are offline…..”
