“De-empanelled hospitals are accused of using fake ID cards and submitting manipulated or forged claims, under the scheme which seeks to provide the coverage up to Rs 5 lakh year per family, for the treatment of serious ailments. With wrongful enrolment of beneficiaries, over 4,000 common service centres and Pradhan Mantri Arogya Mitra IDs have been deactivated in 21 states at the instance of National Health Authority (NHA).”
“In addition nearly 95 fake android applications related to the scheme have been closed down at the instance of NHA. Besides, as part of the drive against the misuse of the scheme, 6 persons were arrested in Rajkot in Gujarat few months back, on charges of selling bogus Ayushman Bharat Cards for Rs 700/- each.”
“In view of the fraud, a National Anti-Fraud Unit (NAFU) has been set up to monitor and implement anti-fraud framework supported by State Anti-Fraud Units (SAFU) by the centre. These units cover entire gamut of activities for prevention, detection and deterrence of different kinds of fraud that could occur in the PMJAY at different stages.”
“The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Ranchi, Jharkhand on September 23, 2018, with an aim to provide health cover to around 10.74 crore poor and vulnerable families. The scheme was formulated after an MoU was signed between NHA and Ministry of Skills Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) on 27th August 2018. The hospitals empanelled under the scheme are required to have ‘Pradhan Mantri Arogya Mitras’ for managing the helpdesk and other related activities.”

“In the meanwhile the scheme plans to generate employment of 1,20,000 community health officers who will be placed at health and wellness centres by the year 2022. As part of Ayushman Bharat – Health and Wellness Centres (AB-HWCs), all the sub-health centres, primary health centres and urban primary health centres in the country will be upgraded into HWCs to deliver comprehensive primary health care. The plan is to create 1,50,000 Health and Well Centres by 2022.”
